Grand Canyon South Rim
May 18 - 20, 2007
The south rim of the Grand Canyon draws about 75% of all Grand Canyon visitors. It is a 5 hour + drive from the South Rim to the North Rim, and the Colorado River is about 4000 feet down near the South Rim cliffs. The Glass Walk, which opened earlier this year is NOT near the South Rim. It is located west of the South Rim National Park land on a Native American reservation and is about 200+ miles by bus or car. We did not go there. If you want to learn more about this "attraction" CLICK HERE. The rock layers in the canyon indicate that the lowest levels were formed over 1,700 million years ago. Mules are a popular means of transport into the lower canyon for visitors who tip the scales at less than 220 pounds. All others must hike in and out, which is a minimum two day trip for those in good shape for hiking at high altitude.
